If a problem arises in a particular part of the plant, the feed rate can be reduced 50% of normal feed rates or less, but the plant can keep operating. Often the most difficult part of operation is starting and stopping the process, so it is beneficial to be able to reduce the feed rate without having to stop. This flexibility increases plant availability.
